Dental crowns are tooth-shaped caps that can restore the strength and appearance of weak, worn, severely decayed, broken, or cosmetically flawed teeth. If Dr. Rose finds that a crown is appropriate in your situation, she will prepare the damaged tooth by removing the affected dental structure and fit a crown snugly over the remaining portion.
The appearance of a crown can vary significantly depending on the dentist, laboratory, and materials used. We realize that beautiful restorations are an art and a science, and we are committed to employing only the finest materials. In fact, many of our crowns can be conveniently fabricated in-house in only one visit using the advanced technology of the CEREC machine. Dr. Rose personalizes the size, shape, color, and translucency of your porcelain crown to preserve your natural-looking smile right here in at Exceptional Dentistry of Melbourne. CEREC literally stands for chairside economical restoration of esthetic ceramics. Sounds complicated, but actually, it’s very simple. CEREC allows us to perform every phase of the dental crown restoration process and complete the entire procedure on the same day.
CEREC uses an all digital system to streamline the dental crown design, creation, and restoration process. We begin by numbing the area to be treated. Then, we remove any damaged or decayed tooth structure. We use the CEREC digital impression scanner to capture molds of your prepared teeth. This information is delivered to our chairside computer monitor where we’ll design your custom dental crown. The design is transferred to an in-office milling unit where a block of custom shaded quality ceramic is molded into your dental restoration. Once this milling process is complete, we’ll place the dental crown. We can make the minutest adjustments to size and fit immediately, ensuring you receive a flawless end result. Then, we seal the dental restoration into position.
CEREC puts the entire treatment process into Dr. Rose’s skilled hands. That means you know you always receive the most precisely crafted dental restoration possible, combining the art and science of a beautiful, healthy smile. The high quality dental ceramic used for CEREC restorations leaves patients with beautiful smiles that last. There’s no need for multiple appointments or the placement and removal of temporaries that may cause additional damage. Instead, you can visit our team with a damaged tooth and leave with a flawless, healthy smile.
Your CEREC dental crown can be cared for in much the same way you care for your natural teeth. You should brush teeth for at least two minutes at a time twice a day and floss daily. Additionally, you will need to visit our office at least twice a year for checkups and teeth cleaning appointments. The only change you may need to make to your at-home hygiene routine is to switch your products. Soft bristled toothbrushes and minimally abrasive toothpastes will ensure you do not cause excessive levels of wear to the ceramic. You may also want to use a waxed floss to avoid tugging on the edges of the crown that may dislodge the restoration.
